Thanks for that Flufy , you are a star . I am not happy with the mortar line on our newly built pond & I had thought the same. I will be posting it when it is finally finished, which may be next year. Funnily enough we have the same tops which is what prompted the question.

looking good - are u doing the blockwork ? looks neat , What are you going to back fill with. I did mine with concrete and steel re-bar ( re-bar left over from base )

Hi i was going to try and use a push type fitting but getting the 4inch pipe alligned with both fitting was a bit too hard so i opted for the easy 4inch straight rubber boots from Evolution Aqua about £12 each they allow for a bit of miss-allignment

Hi shirlgord, thanks and yes i painted it with black G4 sealant - not just to hide the mortar but to seal it from leaching lime into the water.
