This gallery will represent the dismantle of our mk5 pond which has lasted 10 years, total gallonage 4400.
It was built with the best of intentions "at that time" in 1994, the work being carried out by a "landscape gardener & koi pond builder"
The mk5 pond here on after referred to as "the old pond" was 12' x 9' x 5'6" deep & lined with a box welded butyl liner.
The heating system was provided by a 50.000 BTU teledyne Larrse gas boiler, filter system being a 4'dia x 5'deep prime vortex, followed by two 4' x 4' vortex with jap matting cartridges.
The rest is for 2005
New Pond Statistics,2005
We have had a pond for approximately 18 years, and in its present form it is around 3 years old, it is mark 6, and the filter is the 6th. (Some lucky people get it right the first time)
There are 15 Koi in attendance ranging from 17" to 26".
It contains approx 4723 gallons of water, 4550 in the pond & 173 in the Nexus + pipe runs.
The pond is 6' deep & is 14'x 8'6" & has a viewing window.
The pond is heated using a 50,000 Btu Ideal Standard Gas boiler, C/W a Grange Marketing 100000 BTU Heat exchanger. The heating is to stop fluctuations in the water temperature caused by our inconsistent weather, rather than to heat the water excessively. Winter temps are kept to a minimum 14c.
The filters are,
Nexus 300 Eazy
Main pump = Aquamax 15000 c/w 55 watt clover leaf UV & onto the heat exchanger etc .
Pump No2 = Oase Aquamax 15000 c/w a surface simmer.
Total turn over rate through filter = approx 2300 gal per hour.
Power consumption: -
Clover leaf UV = 55 watt
Cockney Koi air pump = 50 watt
Aquamax 15000 = 210 watt
Hi blow 40 = 40 watt
Airtech 80 = 80 watt
Central Heating pump = 105 watt max
Skimmer / Auqamax 15000 = 210 watt
Total power consumption = 750 watt
All foul water is discharged via bottom drains to a holding tank, and pumped to waste by an automatic submersible pump.
All water changes & top ups are done through an Hilux water purifier, E/A blanketweed inhibitor is used to combat b/w!
Oxygen is supplied to the nexus via a airtech 80lt air pump & a Hi-Blow 40 with a "T" of feed to the aerated bottom drain.
The food we use is, Medicarp / nabori / Hikari / NutriKoi Premium, Shingoi etc, + prawns every saturday. In summer we feed our koi around 188 grams of food per day spread over 4 feeds.
